Trent Konecky

Q: What kind of beer are you brewing?

A: I am bringing several different styles brewed with a few different brewers. One style that means a lot to me is the vertical bifold that I brewed with Chris Dyer. Dyer is my brother-in-law and a massive fan of beer. His wife and he bring several friends to the event, and they're always big cheerleaders of my homebrew. This beer is made with Lutra kviek yeast fermented at around 90° and a shit ton of hops. Another batch I'm bringing, and the only batch I brewed by myself, is Griff Pee’s sitting down. Griff's is a hazy double dry-hopped with Citra, Mosaic, and Strata hops. This beer is also fermented with Kviek yeast. Jeremy Fischer and I have been brewing together for several years, and our lineup consists of a Mexican lager, Mia Bock, and a cold IPA.

Q: Are you brewing in honor of anyone? Would you like to say anything about their story?

A: Every beer gets a name, but the one that means a lot to me is Colton Whisler. Last year, I mentioned Colton was kicking cancer's ass, and this year I'm proud to report he has beaten the shit out of it! Recent scans showed zero cancer in his body. He is fighting through rehabbing a body destroyed by chemo. Hopefully, by mid-summer, he will actually be able to play hockey again. Recently, Colton got to go run the bases for the Savannah Bananas. I know we have all been touched by lives that have been ruined or challenged by cancer, but to see this little kid keep on going, fighting and fighting, makes me so proud. I have a lot more I'd like to say on that, but I can't stop crying, so I'll keep that for me.

Q: Do you have any favorite memories, interesting opinions, or otherwise notable things to relate about your love for brewing?

A: I love Kegs for the Cure! This is the best event of the year. So many friends and newcomers to brewing!

Q: Are you new to brewing or an experienced hand? How long have you been brewing for KFTC?

A: I don't even remember how long I've been brewing for Kegs for the Cure. I think my first year was the brown shirt at Firespring. I've been here for a while. I'll keep doing this as long as they all have me.

Q: What is your favorite beer or style?

A: Whatever your mom is drinking!
